We have adopted Woodfields Elementary and Emerald High School for 2018-19 school year.
These are the ways we will be serving them, although other opportunities may arise.
We collected school supplies to take to Woodfields Elementary at the beginning of the school year, but we will ramp that back up in October. Once school begins and all of the supplies are given out, the real needs begin to surface. This will enable the school to ensure every child has what they need to have a successful year.

Weekend Food Packs
Recent reports show that 8 out of 10 kids in District 50 are living in poverty, with more than 400 homeless. The district gives free breakfast and lunch to every student, but they want to make sure they eat on the weekends as well. That’s where we come in. We will gather food items that will go into ziplock bags; teachers will then place those into backpacks of kids in need on Friday afternoons to ensure they have food at home over the weekend. Raisins, crackers, granola bars, etc. We will collect these on an ongoing basis, and then once a month, Legacy Kids will bag them up and we will deliver.
Volunteer in School
Woodfields needs people that will volunteer for various events throughout the year. Think PTO/PTA type activities. Field Day, Career Day, Field Trips, Special Holidays, etc. We can be as involved with the school as we want to be. To volunteer, you need to go to this site 10-14 days in advance: https://www.gwd50.org/Page/13562
This is probably the most exciting opportunity. We will be pioneering a new program with the district that will allow us to go into Emerald during school hours and mentor (or simply become friends with) an identified at-risk teen. Think of the ministry possibilities! As we get to know teens, we get to know about their lives and how we can serve them and their families. May 6-10 - We will plan to serve the teachers in these school well during that week!
